The visit of the delegation led by Mr. Thabo Mbeki to Djibouti is part of an AU mission to support the process of economic and security integration in the Horn of Africa.
Several themes including the achievement of greater co-management and commitment of the States of the Horn of Africa in the prevention and resolution of conflicts in this part of the world were discussed during this meeting. Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia are countries in the Horn of Africa plagued by instability and dissension. Ways and means of extending the process of economic and commercial complementarity initiated jointly by the Republic of Djibouti and the Democratic and Federal Republic of Ethiopia at the regional level were discussed by both parties.
Mr. Thabo Mbeki was accompanied on this occasion by several high-ranking officials, including AU High Representative Lamamra Ramtane, UN Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mr. Perfect Onanga-Anyanga, and IGAD Special Envoy for the Red Sea, Mohamed Ali Guyo.
