Communiqué The Republic of Djibouti remains committed to his candidacy for the Security Council

23/08/2019
00:00

The Republic of Djibouti remains committed to his candidacy for the non-permanent post of the Security Council for the period 2021-2022. It has faith in the legitimacy of its candidacy and can not accept to give up under the effect of a little transparent arrangement that ignores the traditional practice and respect for the principle of rotation.

Our country reiterates its endorsement of the established rules and procedures for elections to the Security Council.

The Republic of Djibouti is of the view that the use of voting in the African Union is not in accordance with the relevant rules of consensus which have always prevailed for East Africa Group and which should normally guide the deliberations of the African Union. Bid Committee.

Djibouti therefore claims its sovereign right to present its candidacy to all UN member states in the elections to be held at the General Assembly in New York in June 2020.
