AU - Sudan : AU congratulates new Prime Minister of the Sudanese Transitional Government
African Union (AU) Commission President Moussa Faki Mahamat hailed the appointment of Sudan's new prime minister. Abdallah Hamdock was appointed prime minister of Sudan's transitional government following the formal signing on Saturday of the constitutional decree on power-sharing. (Source AU)
"This historic achievement is the culmination of months of negotiations and the result of the unwavering and peaceful resolve of the Sudanese people, including women and youth, for a democratic transition in Sudan," Mahamat said.
The president praised all the political actors, both civilian and military, for their commitment and their spirit of compromise by putting the interests of the country before any other consideration.
Mahamat also praised the international community for supporting the Sudan-led process and the African mediation process that led to this positive outcome for the country, region and continent.
The chairman of the AU Commission reiterated the continued commitment of the pan-African bloc to accompany the Sudanese people in their journey towards a democratic Sudan.
