South Sudan opposition leader Riek Machar has returned to capital, Juba, more than two years after he fled the country following the collapse of a 2016 peace deal.
Reports indicated that Riek Machar returned to Juba today to take part in a peace ceremony to be held in the capital.
It is to be recalled that the South Sudanese warring parties signed the revitalized agreement in Addis Ababa during the 33th Extraordinary Summit of the IGAD heads of state and government in September 2018 to end five years of civil war.
The agreement, which was signed following a three month dialogue held in Khartoum, Sudan, would end human suffering in South Sudan, it was learned.
The peace ceremony, which is part of the agreement, anticipated to confirm the end of the civil war in South Sudan and is expected to contribute to the creation of a suitable atmosphere for the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.
