Madagascar : The result of the presidential elections validated by the High Constitutional Court
The Malagasy justice validated on Tuesday the victory of the former head of state Andry Rajoelina in the presidential election last month unsurprisingly rejecting all accusations of fraud of his rival Marc Ravalomanana.
"Is declared elected President of the Republic Andry Rajoelina", launched the president of the High Constitutional Court (HCC), Jean-Eric Rakotoarisoa, after having methodically considered "unfounded" all the requests for cancellation of the poll.
His sentence was greeted by the cheers of hundreds of supporters of Rajoelina gathered in front of the headquarters of the institution in Antananarivo, protected by the police.
"It's not just my victory but that of all Malagasy," said the president elected a few hours later at his headquarters. "I will work hard so that development reaches the doors of every home," he added. "I will be a unifying president".
